vCenter 6.5 to 6.5u1 Upgrade

 Prework

 

1. Take snapshot of the appliance.

2. Ensure that a recent backup of the appliance has been taken.

 

Appliance Upgrade

These steps should be execute on both the vCenter Platform Service Controller and on the vCenter Server Appliance. Start with the PSC.

1. Login to the vCenter Server appliance 6.5 VAMI page using the URL (https://vCenter-appliance-name:5480) and login with the root credentials.

2. Validate the current version and select Check Updates/Check Repository.

 

 

3. You should see the latest available patches. Select the desired patch and then select Install Updates.

4. Accept the license agreement and select install.

 

 

5. Click Ok once the installation indicates that it is complete and that a system reboot is required.

6. Select Summary, then select Reboot. Click Yes to the prompt.

7. After reboot, log back on to the appliance and validate the version.

  Convert VMware Snapshot into Memory Dump Background   This document explains about generating a memory dump for a VMWare Virtual Machine when the machine becomes unresponsive. VM becomes unresponsive for various reasons, you may not be able to get into any OS related settings or access any application. Even users may get not be able to access any shares or resources of this machine.   In this type of situation Memory dump would be required to  analyze  the cause. Even if the OS is configured to generate a Memory Dump for System Crashes, it would not be able to generate a Memory Dump for System Unresponsiveness most of the  times.
