Edit Virtual Machine Startup and Shutdown Settings in the vSphere Web Client
in a scenario when ESX host was initially in a Powered Off State. After the ESX host is brought Online, the VM’s hosted on ESX host will not get Powered ON automatically in the sequence. Hence this Knowledge based Article can be used to Power on the VM’s automatically in the desired sequence when the ESX host is Powered ON.

4. Standard Operating Procedure
We can configure virtual machines running on an ESXi host to start up and shut down with the host or after a delay. We can also set the default timing and startup order for virtual machines. This way, the operating system has enough time to save data when the host enters maintenance mode or is being powered off for another reason.
Note: - The Virtual Machine Startup and Shutdown (automatic startup) setting is disabled for all virtual machines residing on hosts that are in a vSphere HA cluster. Automatic startup is not supported with vSphere HA.
After Performing below mentioned steps ESXi hosts can power on automatically when the power comes back and the virtual machines will be powered on with them.
To configure these steps, we need to Follow Change Process and make sure Downtime has been taken for this activity.
Procedure:-
1. Login to respective vCenter using the vSphere Web Client, navigate to the host where the virtual machine is located and click the Configure tab.
2. Under Virtual Machines, select VM Startup/Shutdown and click Edit.
The Edit VM Startup/Shutdown Configuration dialog box opens.
Refer below screenshot for the reference.
3. Click on the check box for automatically start and stop the virtual machines with the system.
4. In the Start-up Order Box, Configure the sequence for Startup order of VM’s(As per VM Power ON Sequence Standard).
Note: - By default shutdown delay is 120 and By Start Delay is 120.
Use the up and down arrows to change the startup order for virtual machines in the Automatic Startup and Any Order categories. During shutdown, the virtual machines shut down in the reverse order.
5. Click OK, once the startup Sequence is set.
