Analyzing Network Performance with esxtop

 

  1. Log in esxi host via putty.

     

  2. Start esxtop by typing esxtop at the command line.

     

  3. Network performance data in esxtop is accessed by pressing ‘n’:

     

  4. After analyzing the performance Stop the ssh 

     Metrics to look out for here are MbTX/s (Megabit Transmit) and MbRX/s (Megabit Receive). Keep and eye on %DRPTX and %DRPRX as they can be an indicator of a busy or saturated network.
